A place where Colorado Rockies baseball card collectors (all 3 of us) can waste some time reading about our favorite sport. The Rockies and their cards will be the primary focus, but I like to go off on tangents as well so anything and everything baseball related may be covered here.

Quarry Group Break BOX #2 1998 Bowman Series 2

Box #1 went off without a hitch and we got, if not the entire set, very close to the entirety of Series 1.  No major hits or anything, but a good chunk of cards for everyone and a good start to this break.  This box will also be a good chunk of cards, but probably no hits as well and MOST of the rookies that became stars were in Series 1.  Although there are 2 more (total of 4) guaranteed inserts in Series 2 (well statistically guaranteed).

Minor League MVPs show up 1:12 packs and feature 11 then current major leaguers that were former minor league MVPs.  1999 Rookie of the Year Favorites also show up 1:12 packs and feature the 10 players Topps thought would be Rookie of the Year.  Strangely neither winner, Carlos Beltran and Scott Williamson, were in this set AND only one (Kris Benson) of the ten players actually received votes for ROY.

Enough talk, let's rip some packs.

The box.  Travis Lee still sucks.

The pack. They liked Lee in 1998.

Not too bad, but too many dupes for me to consider this a great box.  Also the 2 Rockies I really wanted for my One of Every Rockie set, Lariel Gonzalez and Edgard Clemente, did not show up.  Oh well, at least 3 taken teams got inserts this time.  The Thome dupe is disappointing because that checklist includes Jeter, Gwynn, Andruw Jones, Sheffield, and several others that would have been nice for you guys to get.  We got two of the better ROY favorites so all is well there.  No autos (1:149) or Golden Anniversary (1:194) again and again no big surprise there.

The best in this box were clearly the Indians (17 total cards) and the Red Sox (20 total cards) with the Yankees, Braves, and Twins (again) not far behind.  No team stood out as excessively weak with each and every team getting at least 4 total cards counting dupes.  I was happy to see that the two weakest (Reds, Dodgers) from the first box got two parallels or inserts each

Here is the total for each team for this box ONLY.  I will give a cumulative total at the end of the break.
