A place where Colorado Rockies baseball card collectors (all 3 of us) can waste some time reading about our favorite sport. The Rockies and their cards will be the primary focus, but I like to go off on tangents as well so anything and everything baseball related may be covered here.

Sunday PWE Trade Bait #16

Good Sunday evening guys.  Once again I have been basically absent for the week.  I am proud that I was able to post my Memorial Day tribute to the fallen Rockies because that particular post was something that I had been wanting to do even before I came back to blogging earlier this year.  It just felt like something that needed to be done.

Unfortunately, life caught up with me.  On Wednesday, I had the puppies 2nd vet trip and it was in mid-morning, so it basically shot the whole day.  But it was not unexpected.  The real horror of the week happened the next day.  I was doing in my main bathroom folding towels when I noticed a couple of dead insects near the tub drain.  I thought it was gross, but not that big a deal so I just washed them down the drain.  The next morning I went and did my morning ablutions like always and nothing.  A couple hours later, my grandfather came and got me and said I needed to come to the bathroom immediately.

There are a few words or phrases in the English language that exclusively epitomize terror.  A few that come to mind are murderer, turbulence, collapsed, etc.  Another word that needs to be added to that list is swarm.  There is nothing good about a swarm of anything.  I walked into my bathroom, where two hours earlier there was nothing, and I found a swarm of insects.  I closed the bathroom with me inside to keep them from getting out.  Since I had the dogs and people in the house, my options were limited.  So I just turned the shower sprayer on hot and went Wild West on their asses.  I sprayed scalding hot water in the bathroom everywhere for 5 minutes or so.  The infestation was so bad, I could not see the bottom of my tub.

But after a few minutes and several insect bites on the back of my neck, these things mostly were dead.  Once the swarm was handled I packed the dogs and people in the car and set off a couple bug bombs which seemed to have done the trick.  What were the insects?  Termites.  So I have damage to repair.  I am capable of doing the labor myself, but it will take time.  Luckily for me, the insects were limited to two rooms on the opposite end of the house from my card collection.  So there's that.

That being said, I am ready to forget this week and get some trading going on.

As always, I will trade for Rockies, Topps rookie cup cards, 86 Topps homages, the few remaining 2011 Topps Opening Day blues that I need for my master set, 2005 Topps Rookie Cup rainbows that I need, 2020 Donruss rainbows that I need, or the various insert sets I am currently putting together.  The links are working for 6 of those 7, and the other will be done shortly, but for now you can simply ask if I need it.

If you just simply don't have anything I need, don't worry about it.  We can still trade.  I will happily accept serial numbered cards from teams I am in short supply of at the moment.  All I ask is that you include an extra 1 or 2 just to take care of the stamp I will need to trade them later.

These are current teams I am comparatively low on trade stuff.

Houston, LA Angels, Detroit, Cleveland, Milwaukee

Memorial Day 2021 - Remembering Lost Rockies

The Rockies are a relatively young franchise at just 28 years old.  They have not yet suffered through the loss of former players due to natural aging.  Even the oldest guys on the first Rockies team are only in their 60s right now.  Despite that, the Rockies have still lost some players well before their time.  Today I wanted to acknowledge those players that wore Rockies uniforms and no longer walk the Earth.

As of right now, there have been 603 players that have donned the purple and silver Rockies uniform even if only for a short time.  Of that group 10 are no longer with us.  I have cards for 8 of them.  I created one custom and the other I had to borrow from a TCDB minor league card because I could not find a ML photo of him.  Let's take the time to remember them today.

Darryl Kile (1968-2002)

Pitched in 68 games for Colorado in 1999-2000.

Mario Encarnacion (1975-2005)

Played in 20 games for Colorado in 2001.

Joe Kennedy (1979-2007)

Pitched in 43 games for Colorado in 2004-05.

Frank Castillo (1969-2013)

Pitched in 14 games for Colorado in 1997.

Jose Capellan (1981-2015)

Pitched in 1 game for Colorado in 2008.

Darryl Hamilton (1964-2015)

Played in 142 games for Colorado in 1998-99.

Mark Brownson (1975-2017)

Pitched in 9 games for Colorado in 1998-99.

Marcos Carvajal (1984-2018)

Pitched in 39 games for Colorado in 2005.

Walt McKeel (1972-2019)

Played in 5 games for Colorado in 2002.

Angel Echevarria (1971-2020)

Played in 172 games for Colorado in 1996-2000

Rest in Peace.

I intend to post this every Memorial Day as long as the blog is active.  Hopefully I won't have to add any more names to the list next time.

Thanx for reading.

Sunday PWE Trade Bait #15

Good evening everyone.  I am a bit late with the Sunday PWE Trade Bait post tonight, but it is still Sunday, so...I'm still technically good.   I have been a little under the weather, but really no excuses I just didn't post until late tonight.

This week we have what a lot of consider the first day of summer, Memorial Day.  I am not from a military family, so I have never really appreciated the holiday as much as I probably should, but that doesn't mean I never took the time to remember my own loved ones.  For me, the holiday has been less about the military and more the day we always go to the cemeteries and pay respects to lost loved ones and do some clean up work.  That is my plan tomorrow.

My extended family are buried in three small cemeteries in two counties and tomorrow I intend to deliver flowers, do an awful lot of mowing, and have a lot of weird conversations with rocks.  When you really think about some of our long-standing traditions, they are kind of strange.  But I am going to participate nonetheless.

This week I am including in this post my one and only Memorial Day Camo parallel numbered out of 25 that Topps started putting out in 2016 I believe.  It's not a big name or a highly collected team, but there will never be a more appropriate weekend to post it.

I want to conclude this week's introduction by plugging my initial Chain Mail project.  I started taking sign ups on Thursday and have 4 of the 6 spots confirmed.  I have one spot tentatively reserved and one spot completely open.  If you want to be one of the guinea pigs for the first Chain Mail box, sign up here.  Hope to have you join us.

For now, let's trade.
