A place where Colorado Rockies baseball card collectors (all 3 of us) can waste some time reading about our favorite sport. The Rockies and their cards will be the primary focus, but I like to go off on tangents as well so anything and everything baseball related may be covered here.

2013 Quarry Unlimited - #26 New York Yankees Part 2

The 2013 Yankees reminded me of one thing, Charles Manson (hold on, I'm going somewhere with this).  Charles Manson was one of the scariest murderers of all time and the Yankees under the late George Steinbrenner were one of the scariest franchises of all time to fans of the rest of the league.  But have you seen either lately?  Charles Manson isn't scary, even though he tries to be.  He is just old and worn out.  The Yankees under Hank Steinbrenner have become old and worn out as well.  Yeah it was a stretch, but I did connect them.  Anyway, Hank Steinbrenner reminds me a lot of Daniel Snyder.  He likes to collect names.  There are a bunch of players on the Yankees that made themselves household names elsewhere and are now called Yankees.  This offseason, the Yankees didn't get much younger despite the retirements of Pettitte and Rivera so for the immediate future they will continue to remind me of a cult leader that should have been gone long ago.  While you think about my insanity, let's take a look at the second half of the 2013 New York Yankees.

My Top 5 Yankees Cards
1. Chris Stewart
2. Mariano Rivera
3. Brett Gardner
4. CC Sabathia
5. Adam Warren

Chris Stewart is in a nice catcher's pose, but the real star of that card is the umpire.  He looks like he is trying to get Stewart to go kill the mouse he is afraid of.  Very humorous card.  We'll go from humorous to poignant with the "sunset" card of Mariano Rivera.  His year-long farewell tour was WAY too overblown, but he is the best closer of all time.  I love a good crashing into the wall photo and the Gardner is a very good example of that.  I love the Sabathia card simply because of the number of jokes that can be made revolving around his weight and eating his glove.  Finally the Adam Warren is a bit disgusting, but spit is a big part of baseball and capturing it on film is notable.

Coming Monday - #27 Boston Red Sox

Thanx for reading.

These customs are so cool.

Although I'm guessing more than half of these guys aren't with the team anymore.

With that kind of lineup you would have thought they would have won the World Series...
