A place where Colorado Rockies baseball card collectors (all 3 of us) can waste some time reading about our favorite sport. The Rockies and their cards will be the primary focus, but I like to go off on tangents as well so anything and everything baseball related may be covered here.

2014 Quarry Unlimited - #26 Chicago Cubs Part 2

ROOKIE PROSPECTS

My Top 5 Cubs Cards
1. Darwin Barney (red)
2. Nate Schierholtz (red)
3. Ryan Sweeney (yellow)
4. Welington Castillo (purple)
5. Emilio Bonifacio (green)

I usually make most of the cards around August due to wanting a bigger selection of photos, but I make cards of traded/released players either the same day or soon after they are traded or released because the photos that are there that day are all that are coming.  The reason I bring that up is that the day I made the Darwin Barney back in June I thought it was going to be the best card of this whole set.  It didn't hold up THAT well, but it is still a great card.  It's still might be in my top 10.  The Schierholtz is another of my favorites.  It looks like Schierholtz is performing in front of the Southwest Council of Elders behind their golden wall.  Yes, I am insane.  I have mentioned several times that I am somewhat tiring of the diving catch photos, but I do have an exception for the diving catches facing forward.  The Sweeney is an example of that, but it looks closer to a crash landing than a successful diving catch.  Normally I like a catcher photo in his mask rather than without it, but I really think the Castillo card works better without the mask.  It's a little bit crammed into the design, but it is still a good looking and memorable play at the plate card.  For #5, I just couldn't narrow down which great throwback uniform I wanted to spotlight.  I like Ruggiano, Wada, Rizzo, Bonifacio, and Baez (yes I like those 90s Cubs jerseys) about equally.  I considered not choosing between  them, but nothing else really stood out to me.  So I decided to look beyond the uniform.  I picked the Bonifacio just because the action in the image was just a bit more interesting than the others.

Coming tomorrow - #27 Boston Red Sox

Thanx for reading.

The Barney is my favorite from the Cubs team set as well, but I really like that Chris Valaika with the "Home Run" banner in the backdrop.

Of the ones not mentioned I like the Alcantara and the Strop card. A nice solid team set overall. Well done.
