A place where Colorado Rockies baseball card collectors (all 3 of us) can waste some time reading about our favorite sport. The Rockies and their cards will be the primary focus, but I like to go off on tangents as well so anything and everything baseball related may be covered here.

2014 Quarry Unlimited - #28 San Francisco Giants Part 1

Well here we go with the final week of the 2014 Quarry Unlimited set.  That means two things.  First is, after 10 weeks there will be about 1600 new card images on my blog for all to see as long as this blog remains here.  Secondly, it means that 2015 Topps is not far away.  I try to maintain a schedule where the Quarry Unlimited set basically takes up the dead (for those of us that are poor and don't care about prospects anyway) couple of months between card years.  So that means in just a couple of weeks 2015 Topps will be live.  And in just a couple of weeks and three days, most of us will be sick of seeing all of the 2015 Topps posts, but I digress.  However, we are not there yet.  We still have to go through the three most hated teams (for me anyway) and next week's recap and voting so let's get started.

2014 was an even year, so naturally the Giants won the World Series.  Yawn.  The main problem I have with the Giants recent run of success is that they were never the best team in the National League in any of the three years they won the Series.  In 2010, the Phillies were the best team.  In 2012, both the Reds and the Nationals had better records.  In 2014, they barely squeaked into the playoffs as the #5 seed.  They just always come off as a team that gets lucky and/or hot at the right time.  In 2010, it was winning 3 1 run games against the Phillies in a series in which the Phillies were clearly the superior team.  In 2012, it was the epic collapse of the Reds when they were up 2-0 in a best of five and the lost three straight at home.  In 2014, it was Madison Bumgarner channeling the spirit of Christy Mathewson and dominating the world.  Even though they have won 3 out of the last 5 World Series titles, the Giants don't really feel like a dynasty.  They just seem like just another team that had 3 really good months at just the right time in 5 years.  If you take away the Giants three titles, do they really seem like a disappointment?  Not like the Indians of the mid 90s or the Mariners of the late 90s/early 2000s.  Those teams felt like dynasties, these Giants do not.

I get a very Woody Allen vibe from that Lincecum.
