A place where Colorado Rockies baseball card collectors (all 3 of us) can waste some time reading about our favorite sport. The Rockies and their cards will be the primary focus, but I like to go off on tangents as well so anything and everything baseball related may be covered here.

2014 Quarry Unlimited - #25 New York Yankees Part 1

We now come to the "Evil Empire" of Major League Baseball, the New York Yankees.  This is the highest that the Yankees have ever been on my countdown since they were basically a non-entity in the league when I was growing up in the early 90's.  And even with how bad they were then, I still didn't like them despite the fact that I never really liked any other AL East team.  The Yankees just always rubbed me the wrong way even when they weren't the bully they became in the mid 90's.  Now it seems like some of their terrifying nature is starting to wane just a bit.  So why are they creeping up my countdown?  I actually have two theories.

The first theory is that in 2014, there were no fewer than six former Rockies (Billings, Daley, Francis, Miller, Outman, Rogers) on the Yankees pitching staff.  There was also a seventh pitcher (Roe) that was a former Rockies first round draft pick.  Could familiarity be lessening my contempt for the Yankees?  It's possible, but of the seven guys I listed, only Jeff Francis really ever meant much to me when they were Rockies.

The second theory is that the Yankees are actually Charles Manson (go with me on this).  In the 60s, Charles Manson was one of the scarier human beings alive.  Over the years, even as he got older behind prison bars, Manson was still pretty scary.  But have you seen Charles Manson recently?  He looks like just another guy in the retirement home, well just another guy with a swastika carved into his forehead.  Even so he is no longer scary, he is just an old man telling stories that no one is really listening to anymore.  In short, the Yankees used to be the scariest team on the planet, but they got old and they are just a shell of their former selves.  Much like Manson I will probably never like the Yankees, but I don't really fear them anymore.

Digging the Dean Anna card, but I feel sort for Eury Perez. I think I'd kinda like an insert set that showed really good players making errors. Not sure how they'd like signing a card like that for some kid in the stands, but I think I could see Triple Play doing something like that.
