A place where Colorado Rockies baseball card collectors (all 3 of us) can waste some time reading about our favorite sport. The Rockies and their cards will be the primary focus, but I like to go off on tangents as well so anything and everything baseball related may be covered here.

2014 Quarry Unlimited - #17 New York Mets Part 2

YELLOW

RED

ORANGE

ROOKIE PROSPECTS

My Top 5 Mets Cards
1. Matt Den Dekker (red)
2. Juan Lagares (yellow)
3. Daisuke Matsuzaka (orange)
4. Juan Centeno (purple)
5. Dilson Herrera (rookie prospects)

The Mets were a really strong team this year, arguably top 5 top to bottom, and I think their brightly colored uniforms have a lot to do with it.  They really work well with the colored borders of 1988 Score.  I have really grown to love the outfielder jumping at the wall catch and the Den Dekker card is no exception.  The foliage over the wall really add a nice background to the Den Dekker card as well.  The Lagares card is another fantastic defensive outfield capture.  For me, this one is really special because this play happened at the game I attended.  The Matsuzaka goes the other way.  Instead of a great action shot, this is a very poignant portrait of a veteran whose best days are behind him.  He looks so sad on that card.  That's art.  Moving from the sublime to the ridiculous, we come to Juan Centeno treating the baseball as if he had just dropped a live grenade.  I have never seen that much care displayed by a catcher.  For #5 I was close to picking Jenrry Mejia's "hallelujah" pose, but I just couldn't pass up the wonderful coloration of the Herrera.  I think every color in the Crayola box is on that card and they all seem to work together very well.

Coming tomorrow - #18 St. Louis Cardinals

Thanx for reading.
