A place where Colorado Rockies baseball card collectors (all 3 of us) can waste some time reading about our favorite sport. The Rockies and their cards will be the primary focus, but I like to go off on tangents as well so anything and everything baseball related may be covered here.

2012 Quarry Unlimited - #28 Arizona Diamondbacks Part 1

Coming in at #28 is the team that I consider the Rockies primary rival, the Arizona Diamondbacks.  I believe this because Arizona is the closest geographically and chronologically to the Rockies.  I mentioned when talking about San Diego that the lack of an identity for a team bugs me.  Well the Padres had been around for 25 years or so before they drastically changed color schemes, the Diamondbacks did it after 7 years.  They started out looking like the Rockies' little brother with purple and light blue colors and then changed to red and dust...sand...kitty litter...some kind of brown.  That is the ultimate lack of identity.  Could the Diamondbacks climb any higher?  It's possible they could jump a couple of teams like the Padres, Marlins, or Yankees, but as long as I am a Rockies fan the Snakes will be low on my list.  Let's take a look at some trivia and the first half of the 2012 Arizona Diamondbacks.

If I were a Diamondbacks fan...

Title of the blog - Snakes in the Grass (and the Infield)

Favorite Player (current) - Matt Lindstrom

Favorite Player (all time) - Alex Cintron

Least Favorite Player (current) - Ian Kennedy

Least Favorite Player (all time) - Curt Schilling

2012 Arizona Diamondbacks Total Cards = 49

The Diamondbacks bring us the 12th person that had a card in 1986 Topps, manager Kirk Gibson.  Gibson is most remembered for his staged home run shot off Dennis Eckersley, but I like to think of him as the Tiger that he was in 1986.  Let's take a look at the side-by-side to see exactly how far Gibson has fallen in becoming a D-Back with one of the few action shots from 86 Topps.

I'll be back tomorrow for the second half of the Diamondbacks along with a nice long bitch session discussion on having to abbreviate a nickname.

Thanx for reading.

If I had the power to contract major league baseball, this would be the first team gone.

I would first take Miami and Tampa and combine them and move them to Orlando. Put the park inside Disney World and you can catch a game while you stand in line to get into rides! haha
