A place where Colorado Rockies baseball card collectors (all 3 of us) can waste some time reading about our favorite sport. The Rockies and their cards will be the primary focus, but I like to go off on tangents as well so anything and everything baseball related may be covered here.

2012 Quarry Unlimited - #18 Chicago Cubs Part 2

I mentioned earlier this week that I thought the Cubs were a particularly cardogenic team.  I think the main reason is the standout feature of Wrigley Field...the ivy.  The ivy-covered wall is just iconic and even less observant collectors, such as me, can pick out Wrigley on a card.  Other teams have iconic imagery that can be seen on their cards.  Some off the top of my head include Boston's "Green Monster," the center field hill in Houston, and even the new Marlins carnival attraction.  Did I forget your favorite?  What are some other features that you can associate with a particular stadium?  While you wonder, let's take a look at the second half of the 2012 Chicago Cubs.

My Top 5 Cubs Cards
1. Kerry Wood
2. Starlin Castro
3. Bryan LaHair
4. Matt Garza
5. Jeff Baker

If this card was actually produced, I think the Kerry Wood card would be the greatest farewell card of all time.  The Castro card I liked because Castro is staring just as hard as the crowd at the same focal point.  It's a nice group visual.  The Bryan LaHair photo also tells a story.  Looking at that picture, I can just imagine him thinking, "I can't believe I just got picked off."  Garza is wearing the fantastic Cubs throwback uniform from the early 20th century.  The Jeff Baker is one of the few times I have ever seen the Wrigley scoreboard at night.  I especially like the star.

Make sure you check back on Monday when I will be showing the team with arguably the biggest amount of change this offseason.

Thanx for reading.

That Wood card is very nice; it was a very emotional moment.

As far as stadium features, the Yankee Stadium frieze has shown up in a lot of cards over the years.

I can always spot when a photo was taken at whatever the park is called that houses the Giants (I never remember). It annoys me when I see it on Dodger cards.

That LaHair is certainly an odd shot. I've never seen one like it before, it almost looks like he got picked off first.

If Topps does grant Kerry Wood a card in 2013, I hope they use a shot similar to yours. That was one of the more emotional moments I've seen as a baseball and Cubs fan.
