A place where Colorado Rockies baseball card collectors (all 3 of us) can waste some time reading about our favorite sport. The Rockies and their cards will be the primary focus, but I like to go off on tangents as well so anything and everything baseball related may be covered here.

2012 Quarry Unlimited - #18 Chicago Cubs Part 1

One thing you may have noticed on my countdown thus far is the abundance of losing teams in the first half of my countdown.  I freely admit, I like to root for underdogs.  I always have gravitated toward losing teams (Kentucky basketball the exception of course).  It is hard to root for the team with the advantage, whether it be money, talent, or both.  I explain this because the most noted "lovable losers" in baseball are the Chicago Cubs.  Despite my feelings toward the underdog, I have never really liked the Cubs.  I think the reason is, the Cubs aren't underdogs...they are just a bad big-market team.  They have the same advantages as the Red Sox and Yankees of the world, but aren't as good at it.  However, since they don't win as much I don't dislike them as much as other expensive teams.  Which is why they show up here in the "apathy third."

If I were a Cubs fan...

Title of the blog - The Rebuilding Century

Favorite Player (current) - Ian Stewart

Favorite Player (all time) - Ryne Sandberg

Least Favorite Player (current) - Starlin Castro (purely because he could keep Tulo out of AS Games)

Least Favorite Player (all time) - Carlos Zambrano

2012 Chicago Cubs Total Cards = 54

As I mentioned yesterday the Cubs were the easiest team (with the same nickname anyway) for me to change the team color.  For those that don't remember the Cubs were red in 1986 Topps as shown below.  Sure the lettering of the word Cubs is red, but how can you look at this team and see anything other than dark blue.  That would be like coloring the Dodgers red because their number is red.  Either way, I think it was the worst color mistake in 1986 Topps.  That's okay though, it's fixed now.

Does the blue look better or is it just me?

Thanx for reading.
