A place where Colorado Rockies baseball card collectors (all 3 of us) can waste some time reading about our favorite sport. The Rockies and their cards will be the primary focus, but I like to go off on tangents as well so anything and everything baseball related may be covered here.

2014 Quarry Unlimited - NL All Stars

The one thing I really wanted to avoid in my All Star subset was watering down.  I think that is the biggest problem with the current Update All Stars.  I am also not a fan of what I like to call ASINOs, All Stars In Name Only.  Those are the guys that get named to the team, but don't play.  In my opinion, if you don't play in the All Star Game, then you are not an All Star for that season.  This eliminated some great players from this set, but it fits more in the theme with my entire Quarry Unlimited set in general.  If you play a game for a Major League franchise, you get a card.  I don't include guys that miss the season due to injury or top prospects.  Each photo in this set in of the player DURING the All Star Game with one exception.  Even though he started in right field, there were ZERO photos of Jose Bautista from the game.  I found that a bit odd that he was the only one that I couldn't find, but I digress.

Let's take a look at the National League All Stars.

I think the National League got the three best photos in the All Star subset, at least.  I think the best three cards are Devin Mesoraco, Carlos Gomez, and Charlie Blackmon in that order.  The Mesoraco "Thor-like" pose would be an instant classic if it were a real card.  The Gomez is a killer angle that puts you right in a seat in left field.  The Blackmon photo was also used in Update, but I prefer my full body shot over the close up that Topps has done to death recently.

Your thoughts?  I'll be back tomorrow with my picks for the 2014 Quarry Unlimited Rookie All Star Team.

Thanx for reading.

Ouch, the evil All-Star caps.

Yeah, definitely prefer the NL All Stars. I'd go w/Blackmon, Mesoraco, and Goldschmidt as my faces, in that order.
