A place where Colorado Rockies baseball card collectors (all 3 of us) can waste some time reading about our favorite sport. The Rockies and their cards will be the primary focus, but I like to go off on tangents as well so anything and everything baseball related may be covered here.

2014 Quarry Unlimited - #2 Kansas City Royals Part 2

ROOKIE PROSPECTS

My Top 5 Royals Cards
1. Omar Infante (Red)
2. Mike Moustakas (Red)
3. Josh Willingham (Red)
4. Eric Hosmer (Blue)
5. Yordano Ventura (Green)

Once again the Royals have several very good cards (including a contender or two for Card of the Set) in the Quarry Unlimited set.  They are just a very photogenic team.  Topping the list is the Infante which has to feature more windows than have ever appeared on a baseball card.  Just a great image.  The Moose card is a great close up of a slide into third.  Bonus points for featuring the leg of the Rockies' Nolan Arenado.  The Willingham is just strange.  I can't really figure out what is going on in the photo.  For those of you that have followed wrestling in the past, it really looks like Josh Donaldson is about to give Willingham the Rock Bottom.  Normally I am not a fan of cards that only show someone from behind unless it is really unique.  The Hosmer is a really nice fielding shot that qualifies as really unique in my mind.  I had several contenders for the #5 spot including Terrance Gore, Pedro Ciriaco, Brett Hayes, Lorenzo Cain, and a few others, but I had to go with the Yordano Ventura "duckface" photo.  It is one of those "so hideous, it's great" type of cards.  Some may disagree, but it is probably the favorite for what I am calling the Ugly Duckling of the Set.

Coming tomorrow - #3 Milwaukee Brewers

Thanx for reading.

One minor suggestion that I would find helpful...when you post the top 5 cards, could you please mention which of the 2 posts contain the card? I find myself looking though both posts in order to see what you have picked. Great work though. This is just something that might make things easier for your readers. Thanks.

That's a very good idea. It makes a lot of sense since I am no longer just doing straight alphabetical listings. I'll go back and change things around.

Infante and Willingham are probably my top two from the Royals, but I'll go with Infante as well. I've never seen an angle quite like that on a baseball card.

Wow, really liked the Royals set, but my top 5 would be completely different:

1 - Sal Perez's bubble
2 - Cain & his bat
3 - Duffy w/the "hang ten" sign
4/5 - Aoki & Guthrie, I just think those guys are cardogenic, probably a little biased here

Great job with these. Maybe you already mentioned it in a previous post, but is there a method to deciding who gets which color of border?
