A place where Colorado Rockies baseball card collectors (all 3 of us) can waste some time reading about our favorite sport. The Rockies and their cards will be the primary focus, but I like to go off on tangents as well so anything and everything baseball related may be covered here.

June Quarry Group Break - Box #3 2004 Topps Chrome Series 2 (GREAT CASE HIT!)

Here we are at the midway point of the June break.  I will go ahead and continue with the 2004 Topps Chrome with Series 2.  Going along with the Presidential elections in 2004, there are Presidential inserts in this box.  I am looking forward to them in next year's set if they are good as in the past.  They will randomed in the same fashion as my previous break as "consolation prizes" (Thanx to Ryan G. for naming it).  Well, one will be a consolation prize, the other will be probably the biggest hit of the break for someone.  I hope I haven't oversold it, but I think this hit is special.

Inserts/Parallels Insertion Rate

Refractors (1:4) 5 expected
Gold Refractors (1:5) 4 expected
Black Refractors (1:10) 2 expected
Red Xfractors (1:20) 1 expected

None of the parallels are numbered, but the Xfractors are limited to 61 for series 2 according to BaseballCardPedia.

Once again I will count the regular refractors as parallels and the colored refractors as inserts.

AND
THE
BIG
HIT
IS

pack twenty one (Box Topper Pack)
FPR-DE Dwight D. Eisenhower Griffin Stadium seat relic (AWESOME)

Sure, the auto was lacking once again (although jaybarkerfan will probably be happy with it) and we missed out on the bigger names available, but everyone without a hit still has a chance at the Ike.  Another month and another rare Ruben Sierra card for a Quarry Group Break.  Last month it was a bat card from Bazooka and this month is a Xfractor.   The Ike is sweet and it will be randomed at the end of the break, with all purchased teams without a hit of some kind having a chance at it.  (every team except the Phillies, Cards, and A's is eligible so far with one more hit coming tomorrow in the Aurora box).

Winners for the box
Athletics
Diamondbacks
Mets
Astros
Yankees

The A's got a good looking auto of a first round bust.  He never made it past Class A, but an auto is an auto and it is $6 on COMC so not a horrible hit.  The Diamondbacks are just rolling with these Chrome boxes with 3 colored refractors in this box and a black in the first one.  The Mets have been fairly quiet in this break, but an early (rookie?) black refractor of Jose Reyes isn't too bad.  The Astros were a top 5 team in May's break and look to be again this month and both times were not purchased.  And the Yanks picked up their first "big" card in the Sierra Xfractor.

Losers for the box
Braves
Brewers
Giants
Red Sox
Cardinals

I honestly don't think I had EVER opened a normal-sized box that didn't have 1 Brave in it.  Sorry Colbey, but I did warn you.  Don't feel too bad though the Brewers were shutout in BOTH Chrome boxes and I am so glad no one paid for them.  I almost never pull Giants, which as a Rockies fan I hope doesn't change but as a group break host I always strive for a little parity.   The Red Sox just getting one card was surprising also, but they have been fairly strong in the other boxes.  I am glad for that because otherwise Ryan G. would be thinking conspiracy after last month.

The Reyes isn't a RC (he's a part of the 2001 class) but I will SO take it!

Awesome Ike! Glad I still have 2 chances at it. Cubs make a poor showing, but at least the one card in there was a Dempster I needed.
