A place where Colorado Rockies baseball card collectors (all 3 of us) can waste some time reading about our favorite sport. The Rockies and their cards will be the primary focus, but I like to go off on tangents as well so anything and everything baseball related may be covered here.

Diamond Giveaway - Delivery #1

The Topps Diamond Giveaway site has been up and running for a few months now and I still love it.  I have using it primarily to build my Rookie Cup Collection and have been quite successful so far.  Well, successful is a relative term, but considering my 21 codes have garnered me a 1960 common (traded for 10 cards) and a Vernon Wells die cut (traded for 26 cards after failing to get a Rockie die cut in trade) and not much else I think I have done quite well.  Anyway, the first delivery I received arrived fairly quickly from Topps (about a 9 day turnaround).  Much better than the two months it took to get my 2 cards from MCG or 6 months to get my last redemption.

Here is what I got from newest to oldest.  All involved at least one trade and some had several. Along with a recap of the trading done to get this particular card. (Some are quite extensive).  I have completed 76 trades as of this writing.

I still have 27 cards left on the site and have yet to complete Series 1 or buy any Series 2 box(es).  I spent $10 on shipping for these cards, but the fun value of turning a 2005 junk rookie into a 1974 card (and 5 different Hall of Famers at some point) and one other coming up in Delivery #2 whenever I get that one is priceless.  I was not collecting a lot last year so I missed out on the majority of MCG, but I am having a blast with Diamond Giveaway.  What else could I have spent the $10 on, a movie with no snacks...two months worth of the Budget eBay Collector...one lunch?  I have no problem with spending that $10 on Topps' shipping.

Topps All Star Rookie Wantlist

Finally I have finished my Rookie Cup checklists.  I went a little bit further than just the cups though.  I am collecting the entire Topps All Star Rookie teams even years without the cups on the cards.  I only want the base cards from the flagship set only.  Yes the Opening Day, Chrome, and Heritage have cups too (and thank you to those traders that have sent me some) and in some cases look better than the flagship, but I am going to keep with the main set for now.

Completed Team Sets - 62/65 = 95.4% COMPLETE

Mailbag notes and finally my MCG cards have arrived

Hey all quick post today.  I owe several of you packages and haven't forgotten them.  The following people have packs that were mailed out today.

Jon from Community Gum
Daniel from It's Like Having my Own Card Shop
Julie from Things are Funner Here
Ryan from This Card is Cool
Ted from Crinkly Wrappers
AJ from The Lost Collector
Bo from Baseball Cards come to Life
Sam from The Daily Dimwit
Kirk from Eutaw Street Cardboard

I figured for being a little late with my mailing a quick link/plug might make up for it.  If anyone else should be getting cards from me, please let me know because other than one relic to Greg Z. my trade box is empty for now.

Onto my loot from the Million Card Giveaway.

I only bought one box of Series 1 from 2010 and originally got six codes, and that was it.  Then I took about six months off from the hobby, due to lack of funds and pretty much forgot about them.  Out of my original six, I didn't really want any of them (at least not for the shipping costs).  So I made 13 trades overall and ended up with two cards that I felt were worth shipping.  Here they are.

This 1968 Topps Tim Cullen is my first ever card from this set and it is in great shape.  I traded a 1969 Topps Tim Cullen straight up for it and was shocked that it got accepted.  The 69 was one of my original 6 code cards and I would've probably had it shipped if I couldn't trade it.  Either way this card is now my earliest Rookie Cup supplanting my 1970 Lou Piniella.

This is the card I got from my final trade, which was a trade everything I have left for 1 single Rookie Cup card from the 70s.  I offered the same 6 cards (a 1977 Wayne Garland and 5 from the 1990s and later) for every rookie I didn't have and this was the first to accept.  This is a 1976 Topps Larry Parrish which suffers from a common flaw with 1976 cards being badly off center, but overall much better than nothing.

I loved the MCG site just for the trading.  It was a fun time killer and I will hopefully enjoy the Diamond Giveaway (best card so far a 1977 Luis Tiant) once they get the trade function going on it.

Mountains to Climb in 2011

One of my favorite features in my readings in Blogland is the collecting goals of my fellow bloggers.  I figured since I started this one early this year, I would try my hand at this on my limited budget.

1. Get one card of every Rockie in a Rockie uniform.
This one might prove tough as I didn't realize how many people played partial seasons with the club, but I am still going to try it.
Perceived toughness - 9/10 Perceived cost - 3/10

2. Finish off twelve of my partial sets this year.
This is an important one for me and shouldn't prove that difficult.
Perceived toughness - 5/10 Perceived cost - 4/10

3. Complete 50 trades with fellow bloggers / readers.
Given the friendliness of this community I don't see this being a problem at all.
Perceived toughness - 3/10 Perceived cost - 1/10

4. Organize a Rookie Cup card collection from my vast doubles.
Should be one of the easier goals on this list.  I already have most of my dupes organized by player.
Perceived toughness - 2/10 Perceived cost - 0/10

5. Have 200 posts on this blog.
With the time I have available now this shouldn't be a problem.
Perceived toughness - 4/10 Perceived cost - 0/10

6. Get enough supplies for organization.
Another key mountain for me is getting everything I have organized.
Perceived toughness - 3/10 Perceived cost - 7/10

7. Start and finish the 2011 Topps Heritage set.
I love the 1962 Topps design so this is the only must build set coming out in 2011 for me.  I haven't really liked the past two years of Heritage mainly because I didn't like the design of 1960 and 1961.  Finishing this one might be tough with all of the SPs and inserts but it will definitely get started.
Perceived toughness - 9/10 Perceived cost - 9/10

8. Get my Jamal Mashburn collection over 500.
This shouldn't be a problem, but I am mostly stuck getting parallels now so it will probably cost a little bit.  I am currently at 476.
Perceived toughness - 2/10 Perceived cost - 4/10

9. Find and work on a set I like from 1996-2005.
There are definite holes in my set collection from the period I wasn't collecting.  Suggestions are welcome and encouraged.
Perceived toughness - 1/10 Perceived cost - 4/10

10. Continue having fun with this great hobby.
This will obviously prove to be the easiest goal I have ever set.
Perceived toughness - 0/10 Perceived cost - Priceless
