1. Reid Brignac (purple)

The Brignac is the combination of great background and perfect timing.  It's definitely in my top 10 for the set.  The Sizemore is one of those that gets better and better the more you see it.  When I made that card, I thought it was okay but not really spectacular...kind of a filler card.  But now seeing it again, at the beginning of a diving catch with the ball in frame, it really is kind of spectacular.  The Cameron Rupp is a nice action shot.  I don't remember too many catcher shots from that particular angle, especially with the bat still in the shot.  I have to admit that I am a sucker for the congratulatory images like that on the Rollins card.  That is the celebration of his becoming the all-time hit leader in Phillies history.  I'm sure there are many Phillies fans that have that poster behind Rollins on their wall right now.  For #5 I had a lot of good choices, but I went with the underground angle of Phillies top prospect Maikel Franco.  The angle plus the background coloration and signage really gives this almost a "Natural" type feel.

2014 Quarry Unlimited - #19 Philadelphia Phillies Part 1

I am starting Week #7 (aka Christmas Week) a little late.  I have been a bit under the weather this weekend and it pretty much took out my Monday as well.  I am going to put up both parts of the Phillies in one day to get caught up.  I will put up part one in the AM and I will do my best to put up part two this evening.  Hopefully no one will miss anything by doing it that way.  Anyway, on with the show.

Last year the Phillies were by far the best team set in 2013 Quarry Unlimited with the voted on Card of the Set in Ryan Howard and my personal choice for Card of the Set in Ben Revere.  This year the Phils weren't the best in my opinion, but they do have a pretty strong showing, probably top 10.

The Phillies just seem like a team that is stuck in the past.  A lot of Internet commenters want teams to completely rebuild as soon as possible, but that is not me.  I like it when teams stick together even during a couple of down seasons.  However, the Phillies are a little past a couple of down seasons.  They were the second oldest team in the league behind the Yankees and they weren't really competitive.  To me, that sounds like the time to bust it up and start over.  To their credit, the Phillies have started tearing it down by trading Jimmy Rollins this offseason.  However, there is a lot more guys on the wrong side of thirty (Byrd, Sizemore, Howard, Utley, Hamels, Papelbon) that could (and should) be moved.  I will bet that if that doesn't happen this offseason, the Phillies will probably be in the market for a new GM and manager next offseason.  They may be in that market even with the rebuild.
