My Top 5 Padres Cards
1. Chris Nelson (red)
2. Blaine Boyer (yellow)
3. Andrew Cashner (blue)
4. Tommy Medica (red)
5. Alex Torres (blue)
The Padres had a pretty nice selection this year, not the best team set but definitely well above average. The Chris Nelson is my favorite for several reasons. First is, he is one of my favorite Rockies of all time. Second , that is just a funny photo. In fact, if you could caption the thoughts of the Rockies third base coach it would have to be, "Didn't that guy in the stands used to play for us?" The glove on the head never ceases to make me smile. The fact that it is a nice comeback story like Blaine Boyer is just icing on the cake. Hitting pitchers are always appreciated here at the Quarry. Actually pitchers doing anything that isn't on the mound is a nice change of pace for me and the Cashner is definitely a good example of that. The Medica is made completely by the background imagery. Petco really is a beautiful stadium. Finally we come to Alex Torres and his Jiffy Pop cap. It looks stupid and to be honest it doesn't look like it will help in any way with injuries. However, it is a noteworthy event in baseball history. Not to mention the fact that it is impossible to not like a card that brings back this memory.

The Nelson is definitely one of my new favorites in the Quarry Unlimited checklist.
Love the Nelson! And also enjoyed his time w/the Padres. The play he made that landed him in the stands was pretty impressive. I completely agree with the top 4, I'd probably only switch out the Torres hat, just because I watched it all year and the novelty has worn off. For non-Padres fans, though, it definitely makes sense as a #5. Very, very well done, really wasn't sure how you'd top the Cashner from yesterday, but you did it. Especially love the border that matches Boyer's throwback hat.
FWIW, I probably would've switched out Donn Roach from the Rookie Prospect's set and put in Kevin Quackenbush, but that's a small quibble.
Man, it's been a while since I watched a Padres game, and now I'm remembering how much I hate those stupid looking blue jerseys. Grays aren't much better. Can't wait for them to go back to brown. Whenever that happens.
"Can't wait for them to go back to brown." Yup, that's a Padres fan.
Hitting pitchers forever!
