I mentioned early in this series about the All Star banner blending in with two teams. The Mets are the first of these teams to be shown. I didn't like that the new colored border I added was the same color as the All Star banner, but it is a lot more appealing than changing the All Star banner. Since I brought up the All Star banner, I wanted to mention another similarity between the 1997 Topps set and this one. The starting All Star pitcher for the AL team in 1976 was rookie Mark Fidrych and the starter for the NL team was Matt Harvey. Although he wasn't technically a rookie (he was 9.1 innings over the limit), I think the comparison is more than apt because Harvey took the league by storm much like "The Bird." In that regard, I tried to find a photo similar to the classic Fidrych card for Harvey's card, which I think I did. Unfortunately for Harvey and the Mets, the similarity did not end there as Harvey developed a major injury to his pitching arm just like Fidrych. Hopefully for the Mets and Harvey, the rehabilitation will go much better for Harvey than it did for Fidrych. Let's go ahead and check out the second half of the 2013 New York Mets.

The Daniel Murphy card shows off the Mets' Big Apple which appears after a home run. Aside from the Bernie Brewer slide, it is my favorite stadium home run tradition. The Juan Centeno is actually a vidcap, but it is probably the best vidcap in the whole set. This particular shot is actually a pretty big deal as well since this captures Centeno about to throw out speedster Billy Hamilton for the first time in his career. Normally I am not a fan of the overdone holiday garb that teams are wearing now, but the John Buck is just a great depiction of patriotism. The partial Mr. Met on the wall in the background is just gravy. The Anthony Recker card is a shot of a relief pitcher giving up a home run. That has become pretty much a standard photo, except for the fact that Recker is a catcher. I love non-pitchers pitching even more than pitchers batting because it only happens a few times per season throughout the league. Finally, we come to the Juan Lagares which shows a fantastic catch on a colorful wall.

I think Topps is long overdue for a "position player on the mound" card like the Recker. Great shot.
I don't know, I think that Wright card with the banner looks pretty awesome.
