Finishing up Week #7 of the 2014 Quarry Unlimited showcase, we can take a look at the St. Louis Cardinals. I mentioned in the Brewers intro that they were the team that posted the biggest rise in 2014. Well as Isaac Newton once famously stated, "With every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." The Cardinals plummeting down this list is the reaction to the Brewers climb. If I may mix a metaphor here, the Cardinals/Brewers change is also a bit of the chicken and the egg. I don't really know if my liking of the Brewers pushed the Cardinals down or if my new dislike of the Cardinals made the Brewers rise. It's probably a combination of the two things, but it does give one pause for reflection when making a list such as this.
I would also be remiss if I didn't mention the tragic death of Oscar Taveras of the Cardinals. It is really sad, but it is no more sad than the death of any 22 year old that drinks and drives as if they were immortal. Stories like Taveras have been in local newspapers for years, the cars may have been less expensive but the young lives taken were just as valuable. The loss of Taveras to the Cardinals and to Cardinal fans is indeed noteworthy, but in the grand scheme of things baseball is meaningless in this situation. The loss of Taveras and his girlfriend to their families is the same as all of the rest of those people that lost a family member before they really even got started in life. I really do feel for the families involved in this situation.
I really don't have a good segue here, so let's just look at some Cardinals and try to move on.

Love that Masterson. Cards of pitchers crossing the plate are far too rare.
